Currently have a 2000 DTS, 2005 XLR and 2015 XTS. The DTS feels like a big, comfortable GM car, but quicker and more agile than 70s cars. The XLR is a little race car, sort of an upscale Corvette. Could be appointed better inside. Most fun with the top down. The XTS might as well be an Impala. Far from a Cadillac of the past. Good enough car quality-wise, but doesn’t even feel like a Cadillac. They definitely lost their mojo somewhere along the line, and didn’t seem courageous enough to really compete with Mercedes and BMW. Yes! Plus the 68 with big chrome dish, twin intake hoses going down under the front bumper to intake boxes. Functional, not practical, but very cool. Also twin snorkel 66-67 Toronado air cleaner and CCC system air cleaner made the engine bay look nice. ... View more

Love them all too, at least thru 1978. I have a 67, 78 XS and an 85 Caliente. None is a show car, but all look good and run nicely. Liked the comment about welding a gas station to the filler neck. Seems like 15 mpg is it. Anyway, gas is the smallest expense of keeping everything running right. Parts are getting scarcer and more costly these days, even on ebay. ... View more

For winter storage, best to leave the hoods up too. Discourages mice from making a nest on the engine using hood insulation and chewing wires. Hood down makes a nice, cozy and safe place for the nest. Hood up makes an unprotected area for mice, and they don’t choose it so much. ... View more

Did an 85 Town Car some years back. Takes patience and extreme care not to damage anything. This car burned in the engine area, and so I replaced the harness nose to tail. Use masking tape and mark everything. NOT completely idiot proof and can be mis-assembled. All clips are easy to break too. Go slow. Did a 68 Olds 98, loaded, and same difficulty. This time I needed to replace dash pad and add Comfortron and cruise, both of which just plug in deep inside. Old wiring is very stiff, and often needs new tape.  if you don’t mind punishment, these are just tedious jobs, not too complicated. Replaced the touch screen on my wife’s Caddy XTS. Substantial disassembly including the console. Thank heavens there are videos for the newer stuff!
