Chrysler's TC by Maserati. The amateur automotive journalist's go-to punching bag... Yes, it's K-car based, (Daytona actually) but the hand made Italian leather interior is still nice even after 33 years. The intercooled 2.2 Turbo II in the base 1989 model moves the TC along as well as most newer cars on you will encounter on the road. The TC was not designed to be a performance car record holder. Being said, the Turbo II engine has great performance potential with roots in 40 years of enthusiest R&D. Add to it the fact that most powertrain and chassis improvements can be made with parts from other K based products. This makes the cost of ownership is extremely low. Junk yard and Rock Auto wholesaler closeout prices low. The three speed automatic transmission found behind the base TII engine can be upgraded inexpensively. Many racers use the same transmission in 12 second and faster cars. A well built a413 can live a long happy life backing up the TC's TII engine. Is the TC a good $10000+ car? Hell no. Is the TC a great $5000 car? Absolutely. Will any version of the TC ever become extremely valuable? I don't really care. I'm a car guy, not a guy with some cars.

Many consider 2001 and later vehicles as 'Newer' Most pre-2015 vehicles will not tolerate high precentages of ethanol without some for of fuel system damage. This is another political stunt anthing career politicians do from now until November is just to get votes, not to fix problems.

The 2005-2006 MINI Cooper S (R53) is a real bargain right now. They get a bad rap for reliability, but that is because most owners do not maintain the cars as they should. The basic repairs most of MINI's need are simple to perform and don't require a large investment in specialty tools. Parts are easy to source and there are plenty of 'How-To' videos on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/c/ModMINI I have owned a lot of cars. The R53 is near the top of my favorites list.

Younger enthusiasts have been treated like crap for years by the people with the high dollar cars. I remember being the young guy with the not so nice 1972 Roadrunner in the early 1990’s. Being excluded from events because my car was “Too New” or if I was let in, I was relegated to the back row. The same crap continues today. Show up at the local cruise and be pushed to the fringe if you’re not in the “Cool Gang”. Just these days the kids that think they’re cool are using a walker and hiding under a tent. Eventually we all find our counterparts and a place to fit in.

This behavior isn’t new. I experienced it in the early 1990’s. I was into Mopar muscle cars, but couldn’t afford anything nice or desirable at that time. What I could do was body, paint and mechanical work. I also had a lot of free time and energy to work overtime to fund my projects. I would roll up to a car show and be turned away because my 1972 Demon was ‘Too new’ The same older groups that turned me away were also the ones asking me to work on their cars. That opens the other lane of No-Street as I was more than happy to refuse to work on their cars. A the years wore on, I’ve seen the same crap and also noticed that younger people aren’t as interested in cars anymore. We reap what we sow and now the older generation is learning that a little too late. I’m not as interested in pre-1980’s cars as I was when I was 20. If I’m going to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a four wheeled plaything, it’s going to be something more modern. I guess they killed the thrill for me too. So, sorry geezers, you’re going to have to come up with another way to buy your way into the Villages.

The one thing that kept me from buying a Viper is that the rear tires are not redily available. Manufacturers only make them on occasion and Viper parts specialists tend to buy them up and then mark them up. It's hard on the wallet to burn up a set of tires that cost $3000.

I disagree. The only people I’ve heard complain about drop top cars are cranky old timers. The younger generations with money to spend will prefer convertibles to coupes every time. Auction sales don’t accurately represent sales at small specialty dealers and brokers.

BMW rear battery cables also have an exploding disconnect that fires during a crash to disconnect the battery. If you pull a junk yard cable, plan to put a new end on it.
