I don’t get the recent “burn out “ thing. I watch a lot of car shows on Velocity TV, etc. and almost every car builder, custom shop or resto mod show has the cars smoking tires . The purpose of performance tires and great cars was in some situations to go fast, and to do it with the least amount of loss to poor traction or power sapping components. Totally believable. Until October 31 past year, I had a Supra MK4, full body 295 CUP2's on the rear. The RWHP was 768 and 726 pound feet. It did 9.98 @143 mph in the 1/4. What a car ! ... View more

For sure, I feel the '60s and early '70s were the best years for gear heads, especially those of us that were into the "back road 1/4".  Cars were still basic physics then, without the complications of high tech electronics and super congested, plumbed to death engine bays. My car meet buddy has a '32 GTR RHD that he imported 4 years ago. My JDM is a 6 speed LHD '94 Supra that I bought new in Toronto... it is crazy the way people ask me to sell it. I had it professionally appraised in 2017, $128,750.00 was the number ... I was shocked then. Last year I was offered $140,000.00 at a car meet ! I bought a '68 Mustang GT 302 4bbl, 4sp in a teal blue. First year with front disc brakes and radial ply BFG tires. Great looking car, reasonably quick but was always blown off by my buddies 302 '67 Camaro. I only had the car a year as it had a miserable vibration at 70 mph. I took the car to the Ford plant for the engineers to look at Oakville after many visits to the dealer to get it fixed. Ford blamed it on the disc brakes, the radial tires, just about anything. I traded in the Mustang on a new Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV (that I still own). In 1974 it was discovered that Ford pinion castings in the late '60's were sometimes cast 10 thousandths off true centre. At the driveshaft speed at 70 mph, a resonance in the smaller cars was felt. As a fussy tech guy, it drove me crazy. Still wish I had not traded the Mustang, overall I loved it. ... View more

As an older car hobby guy, I have gone through periods of loving cars from different parts of the world. In the '90s, after a disastrous experience with a plymouth "tragic wagon", I promised myself to look elsewhere for a well made car. Coincidently, the kids had all moved out so I went looking for a car that I wanted without practical concerns whatsoever. I ended up with a 1994 Turbo Supra with the 6 speed manual and sport roof. I could not be happier with any car, still have it, looks like new and is a hoot to drive. I did tinker with it so it does go and stop even better than factory. Looks like a meeting of the like minded here. I am a 75 year old that has been really into cars and all things mechanical and electrical since I was 7. I built an oak framed "go cart" when I was 10 and the next year a scooter that I powered with the 3 1/2 HP Briggs and Stratton that I "borrowed" from my Dad's snowblower. The first car I owned was a Ford Mainliner that blew a rod in front of our house ... the driver was so incensed he threw the keys to a bunch of us that had been attracted by the melodic percussive sound of a connecting rod pounding on the block. Next car was the love of my life ... a well abused 55 Chev Belair 2 door hardtop... stove bolt six ... three on the column. I completely rebuilt that car and put 150,000 miles on it. Then onward and upward. 68 Mustang GT Fastback, 69 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV (That I still own), several family grocery getters then a 94 Toyota Supra Turbo ( That I still own). I do understand Lucas's passion, hope it stays with him and gives him the lifetime of pleasure the car hobby has given me.
