I see things very differently than HyperV6. You say, "Ford is coming out with an electric truck that is based on a regular F-150." Exactly! When you have the best selling truck for 46 years running, that is a great place to start. Long term durability and quality of most of the components are already known. Concerning sales, Ford hasn't sold any Lightnings yet, as the production starts in the 2nd quarter of '22. They did not say they sold twice as many, they stated that they are doubling capacity. You are correct that 200K of reservations will not equal 200K of sales. That is why they are only targeting 80K of capacity (from 40K originally). Finally, never use GM as a measuring stick! Mary Barra incorrectly thinks that GM is the "leader" in electric vehicles. How many do they have for sale right now? Answer: ZERO! That's leadership! Wait, GM has a Hummer coming out soon. When can I take delivery of my six figure, 9500 lb behemoth so that I can crab walk around the mall parking islands? GM missed the mass market so badly on the Hummer that they are now scrambling to get the (third best selling) Silverado out the door. Yes, reservations are a marketing ploy, but so is claiming 400 miles of range and superior battery technology before you have a product. I won't buy an electric vehicle yet, but when I do, it will be based on real world data, not marketing.
