I probably saw that car race since I went to the drag strips in the LA area. Nice to hear about cars from that era. Growing up in the 1960's ( yes I am over 75 years old), we built our cars, both street and drag racing, in our garages, sometimes building the engine with the block in the car because we didn't have an engine stand! Taught us a lot about mechanics and how things worked! Most people today want the instant car build that so many of these "Reality " shows seem to make it believable that you can buld a car in a week, while those of us older ones remember it taking months to years to get a car together! As a Servo Systems engineer for over 40 years, what I have never seen is the true cost to the environment when everyone has to have a charging station at their house to charge the two or three cars they would have. This means the cost to produce the electricity, the infrastructure to support all those charging stations, the maintenance for the infrastructure, as well as the cost to fabricate the batteries, the cost to mine all the materials (which by the way includes the rare earth magnets that is available to the US from a not so friendly country, which are used in everything from starter motors to power window motors). I know some will say that it is worth it o save us from running out of oil, but if we have a mix of fully electric vehicles, hybrid (gas motor/electric powered vehicles) as well as full ICE vehicles, that will substantially make the environment better overall at a much lower cost to the consumer. ... Growing up in LA in late 50's early 60's it was a short ride over to Edlebrock when they had their factory in LA. We would get our aluminum heads for our 53 flathead Ford engine redone, and see people like Vic jr. Nowadays, the big conglomerates are taking away that type of customer relations! you could even go to Iskenderian's factory and Ed would personally take you through the shop, which he did with my brother and I. Last time I tried to get someone at Edlebrock to talk to me about heads for my 427 Big Block Chevy, it was "we don't deal with the general public, go to one of the places we sell our equipment through"! I remember driving those cars.  We found out that the lever on the outside when pushed all the way down made the car go faster than the gas pedal in the car.  The later cars did not have that lever.
