I agree as if you look at American cars from an overseas perspective today the Corvette and Mustang may be the two most known.    The Corvette may hold a bit more due to the racing history at Lemans.  Though the Mustang and Camaro are now raced down under.    Cadillac at one point was well know and treasured overseas but not right now.    Then if you count all the Chinese and their love for Buick but we will not go there.    The truck is a American image deal but not something many think about or see overseas away from an air base or middle east.    One last point I have sold parts in ever corner of the world. Excellent point. When I dealt with the high running temps on my 1953 Kellison J4 roadster with a Chevy small block, changing the water pump to a stock Chevrolet unit solved the problem. We drove 9C1 (police pkg) boxes in 84 and then from 87-90. The 84’s had Chevette bucket seats (really) that collapsed within months of being put in service. Camshafts turned into dowel rods by 20K. Brakes faded badly. But they sure were nimble, and much quicker off the line than the Diplomats we also had. The 87-90 boxes were nearly perfect-all the weak points of the 84s were resolved, plus they were quicker. The 91s (Shamu when painted the traditional black and white) were so disappointing-slow and ponderous, with a troubling lightness in the rear end when driven at speed. 94 saw the introduction of the iron-head LT1, and the complaints disappeared. The handling may have still been ponderous and the rear light at speed, but that all was lost in the wake of all that glorious power! In the days before dashcams (and before my acquisition of common sense), I saw 137 mph in a slick top. I ran out of road before I ran out of acceleration so I’m not sure what the top end really was. That the fastest squad I’ve ever driven (though the hemi Chargers and turbo Fords of today will leave it for dead), and I wouldn’t mind driving one today still. ... View more

I owned a 1997 Eagle Vision Tsi (Black exterior with Quartz leather interior) in 1997-99. It was an awesome car. Fast, big, comfortable, attractive, handled well, decent gas mileage... basically everything one would want. I also owned several LHS/New Yorkers both new and pre-owned over the years. I can say that those cars, too, were all of the aforementioned accolades. As a self-professed "car guy", the LH cars are my favorite cars of all-time. So much so, I convinced a half-dozen friends and family members to buy their own LH vehicles. They, too, loved their cars. And I also owned a 2005 PT Cruiser I bought new in May 2005. I didn't hate it. That said, it was woefully under-powered. The ride wasn't great. Neither was the MPG. I traded it in December 2005 for a new Honda Accord EX-V6 Coupe. I'd be satisfied if they went back to original suspension mounting points and suspension type so that they could keep the safety aspect of a dedicated race car, but in their quest for every car being equal they've doomed that. Also that would leave the FWD Camry out, and there's a lot of money there so that's not happening. 😕 I love vintage stock car racing, but when they started building to a formula and all cars were for all intents and purposes identical I lost interest. I'm glad to see the Rose's Car Studio, where the original movie scene was filmed, still exhists. I remember Irv telling us stories of how the scenes were shot, particularly the one where the car shoots out of the building. The car in the scene was just a fiberglass body on a rudimentary frame, and very light weight. After the car exited the building, it got stuck in a tree. The film crew was unable to get a shot of the car falling to the ground, so they just showed it wrecked and sitting caught in a chain link fence that spanned the rear of the property.  Normally in that spot in the studio was a pre-war Alfa-Romeo Grand Prix car. For effect, they parked a bright red MG TC next to it. Other cars in the studio oncluded a Bugatti T-35B driven by Hellie Niece, a pre-war Alfa-Romeo Monza, and a Cisitalia. After the brother's deaths, the cars were sold and scattered to the four winds. The only one I have seen since is the Bugatti, owned by a well known west coast collector.   ... View more
