Yea... Somebody who actually "gets it"! As a Superformance 427SC "replica" Cobra owner, I never have nor ever would try to pass off my car as an "original", even when it would be easy to get away with such a lie while rolling down the road and yelling back and forth with the person in the car next to me when they ask that inevitable "Is it an original?" question. Honestly, how I normally answer that question is by replying " No, it's a Superformance replica, it's BETTER THAN THE ORIGINALS!", which, if you are anybody who knows engineering or even simple mechanics, you would know my response IS actually the truth (especially when describing the most replicated car in the world, the 1960's Shelby AC Cobra roadster). But, how can this automotive blasphemy actually be the truth? Most of the old "hot rods" were mollycoddled together, using a base-car make/model that was available at the time which most closely fit the intended purpose in the eyes of the original builder/modifier. Modern replica cars are made to "look" just like the originals of course, but not to "duplicate" things like the original chassis design, classic braking systems, classic suspension details/sway control, etc... They usually "modernize and improve" these important systems and especially in the case of the beloved Cobras, (most) replicas are DESIGNED to have huge horsepower under the hood, without body twist, inadequate braking, poor road shock absorption, etc... that the originals were notoriously plagued with. Fellas, the largest motor the original British AC Ace car (the car Shelby made the Cobra from) was designed to house under the hood was a 200HP straight-6cyl. engine. Not a 370 HP small block V8 and certainly not a 500+HP 427-inch big block V8 (BTW, my Superformance sports a 520CID motor which produces 650+HP & 700+Ft-Lbs of torque). So originals, they are awesome pieces of history which many times very few people can afford to invest in AND DRIVE for pleasure. Whereas replicas allow many more people to afford the same kind of thrill without selling family members into servitude. And, their usual modern upgrade in automotive technology can help make those cruises much safer. Not only for the owner's check book, but also for their health insurance providers. So, quit dumping on car replicas. They have no affect on investors in the originals, except when they go against them on the track and LOSE. LoL... As far as a replica DeLorean... YUK! I'd rather duplicate the Oscar Mayer mobile! 😉
