EV's will have it own challenges in protecting the environment. First, the huge mining operation's to get to the precious metals needed. Then plants to process these metals into batteries. So, it not the thieves that are the problem, it's rough junk yards. Scrap yards that pay monies for metals in Florida, must use finger print readers. After you register with your driver's license and a finger print read then can you get cash for metals. At this cost and problems installing very expensive batteries that also would need be safe from fire, collisions, and the cooling needs, this is a candidate for those that want to race at the track.  Someday there will only be EV racing vehicles. Reduces the amount of EMI, ElectroMagnetic Interference.  When AM radio was still king, filters installed in line with the 12v power were available from third parties to reduce the interference. It came about in 1974 when all of GM cars had HEI, High Energy Ignition, and others followed.  Coils use to put out a few thousand volts and most ignition wires were copper.  To get a hotter spark that helped in power and emissions, the voltage jumped to to over 25,000 volts, maybe up to 40K. I cannot find the answer.  Electronic ignitions became the norm, it forced a redesign of the distributor and carbon wires became the norm. By 1958 just about every car had the quad headlights, even the Chevrolet Corvair up to around the early 80's when halengin lamps in molded headlight started to become the standard.
