I can almost guarantee I'm the youngest car guy on this forum, so I'll weigh in. The last car show I've been to was a meet outside of New York City. I saw a guy roll up in what looked like the Sebring 67' MGB GT, so I walk up and asked him about the car. We had a small conversation, and my greatest take away was how surprised the owner was that I knew what the car was, and the livery on it no less. I remember back in October of 2019, I was fortunate enough to visit the Galpin collection. My father, Chuck(the man working) and I talked for a little bit. The Shelby Cobra came up and Chuck decided to hit me with a curve ball. He asked me what the 260 was based off of. Now, I'm still surprised I was able to get it correct, but I said it based off the Fairlane 221 V8.    To say this guys mind was blown would be the understatement of the century. He looked genuinely surprised, and thats a memory that's been hard pressed into my brain. So why do I mention this?    For the most part, I haven't been gatekept from the hobby. Most of the old farts are happy a 14 year old with a smile wants to talk about their 1/300,000 made on a Tuesday in October 1969 Charger with some "rare options".    I'm not saying I haven't been discouraged. I remember back at Chevy Nationals, the owners of this beautiful 64' Corvair were pretty rude to me when I tried to strike up a conversation. And I have been given the stink eye at a few meets, especially from Porsche guys. But, that's alright. My advise: any car 20 years or older should be investigated as to what troubles that particular model encountered over the years and some spares should be carried on trips especially the parts that are known wto be subject to frequent failure but more so parts that might fail but are not stocked every where of course one cannot have everything that might go wrong but some things are good to have good example: on 30s 40s and 50s cars fuelpumps would often fail ( They were well made but the diaphragm material would just give out) and it was common to carry a spare Fuel pump ( and a few tools) ... (I do recognize that it's unreasonable of me to "blame" Cadillac for the nightmare-experience involved in its cross-country shipment to my address.) - The Toronto, Ontario-based selling Caddy Dealer arranged 'shipping', - The front-end was badly damaged while in possession of the Shipper, - 3-months (Yes! True!) lapsed prior to the car's delivery to my address, - The 3-months included a period of "Auto Kidnapping", by the shipper, - My specified Concours-quality bodyshop "Expertly" repaired the front-end, - My specified Concours-quality bodyshop "Missed" the broken base-of-rad, - Within 24-hours following delivery, my garage received a lake of rad fluid, - The XLR sat in my garage, collecting dust, awaiting 'Spring', - 2-months later, the XLR was fully-repaired and on the road, - I sorta 'hated' the car by now, then... - I discovered 2-areas on the exterior that did not receive paint during assembly, - (Leading edge of Fuel Access Door & Area of Hardtop Below Rear Window), - I also discovered that I wasn't in love with the XLR's front suspension..... My first car was a 68 Dodge Charger.  The headlamp doors didn't work when I bought it used in 1974, but I would manually open and close them by hand because I thought the car looked so much better with the covers down.  Wasn't smart enough of a mechanic at 16 years old to actually know how to fix them to work properly.  I do remember a few nights driving home from work with people flashing their lights at me because I forgot to flip the doors open.  Still one of my favorite looking cars.  Wish people would have read the beginning of this article so they would not be commenting about vehicles with pop up headlamps instead of fixed covered headlamps.  Save the pop ups for a future article.   ... Not actually unique, but I always wanted a wooden steering wheel with the notched finger grips from the Mustang muscle car era. 1.  Using chocks in front and back of all tires is also a good idea. 2.  Weaving your straps back through the buckle is a good safe way to prevent the                 straps  from ever slipping.  This is something my son, who is a trucker, showed me. 3,  When inspecting your trailer and tow vehicle, make absolutely sure your hitch is the          same size  as the tow ball.  Failing to do this could end in a catastrophe you don't            want to even think about. 5.  Make sure your trailer safety straps are correctly attached to your tow vehicle.
