This article is one of the reasons that I am reconsidering my relationship with Hagerty. You publish an article from Mecum Auctions, with "their" projected values. A 1987 Chevrolet pick up, valued between $70,000 and $85,000! Who are they kidding. $45,000 to $50,000 for a C10 pre-1972 Chevrolet pick up; another joke. Why do you present articles with these "ridiculous" values? Are you telling your readers that, should something happen to your 1987 pick up, you should receive $70,000 if it is destroyed and written off? Classic insurance companies are not forcing owners to obtain appraisals, from a certified appraiser. This should be mandatory, to prove that the vehicle is covered properly and accurately. Without it, your insurance appraiser can say: "Your truck is a 1987 and the book value is $5,000. Here is a check. In my opinion, this is not good business, and it can give a lot of people a false sense of value. My message to your readers: "GET YOUR CLASSIC APPRAISED!" Great article. Who gives a damn; a true classic or a tribute. The whole adventure of owning a classic is the opportunity to cruise, with a smile on your face. My "wife to be" was driving a plum crazy 1970 Duster 340, that 1971 night that we first met. A two door coupe, automatic, power steering and dual Walker "blue bottle" mufflers. Loud enough that you had trouble talking to a front seat passenger. The Duster is long gone, but the wife is still ticking on all cylinders. I offered to find her a similar Duster; color and all. Her response was a very stern: NOT A CHANCE! I wasn't going to jeopardize a long-lasting relationship, so I threw the thoughts aside. Very basic before storage for the winter: wash and wax the exterior. Clean and vacuum the interior, even the glass. Place Fabreeze sheets throughout the interior and trunk. I park the car on a foam floor covering, made from 2 foot square playroom pieces. I put a couple of movers blankets on top of the cover, and make certain that they protect the areas that I might put something on top of the car. Don't forget the most important thing, once you close the door, and before you put the cover on: Give the car a kiss goodbye and tell it you will see it in the spring!   ... View more

Suggesting a Triumph TR-6, or any British automobile, is akin to saying that mosquito bites don't itch. Yes, British sports cars from the past are a lot of fun; open air sports cars from the 60's are the envy of the arrogant and the smart people, together. The smart people admire them from outside the bubble. The arrogant own them, but do not reveal all of the shortfalls of ownership. Carry spare parts and tools, each and every time that you take it out. As well, do not forget the repair manual, and, of course, your knowledge of the car. More often than not, you will be at the side of the road, scratching your head, trying to figure out why it died, this time.  However: it is not all doom and gloom. Your ego gets spiked every time that someone gives you a beep, a thumbs up, and even just a smile of appreciation. I have a 1968 Camaro coupe. It began life as a 6 cylinder, "Grandma" car: 6, 2 speed power-glide automatic; power steering; red with an all white interior. Bright, sporty looks with a convenient size body to park easily. Now it has a 350 V-8 with a little rumble, making it sound hot. Not so. With a rear end around 2:76 , it goes no where fast, but I can cruise the highway forever. "SS" emblems and hood; this Camaro, along with any other '67 - 69, will draw thumbs up where ever you may go.  Sporty looks, not like a land yacht; these models will always be popular. If bought correctly, and with minimal maintenance, they will hold their value indefinitely.
