I bought my 1969 Camaro in 1972. Used it as my everyday car for some years then drag raced it for ten years. Although it sat for years I am now restoring it back to Cortez silver with black Z-28 stripes. So my $1500 purchase and with this restoration cost will make me happier than any Ferrari. I wonder if our current shortage of fertilizer which is on the horizon of this years crops might not point to an obvious conclusion that food for humans is more important than some slight reduction of emissions? Elon Musk probably said it best that the electric grid could not support an all electric car charging needs. With the closing down of coal plants and the insane reliance of wind and solar I see no real reliable source of electric being "built back better" to met the needs of the grand EV plan. As far as Corvettes go it may well be a great engineering exercise but will the novelty wear off? Exotics like Bugatti or Lambos etc are for a certain type of buyer but does the Corvette have to follow that type design? You know none of these cars will be parked at the Mall. Unless you are so rich you don't care about the damage everyday cars get on the road. Having a Corvette back when I could afford a nice driver the thrill was not creature comforts like AC ,power windows or a quiet ride like modern cars. It was solid lifters , loud and rattling body work and just plain cool. I am just glad that my second car was a 69 Camaro that I was able to hold onto for 50 years and now am restoring it for the final time . Tell me again why we need battery cars? As the current administration is closing down electric generating plants where will that charging current come from? Tell me how this is building back better when driving anywhere was possible due to gas stations. I remember when stations that pumped diesel for my 1996 f-250 7.3 powerstroke were not that numerous as they are today. Now you will have to plan trips around charging stations? Ugh . The ability to have the power to charge those vehicles is being diminished by closing down coal and nuclear plants with no reliable replacement of electricity. Cost of batteries increases will happen when mining for needed metals soars. The infrastructure for gas powered cars was built over many decades so pushing car production of electrics before charging stations are as numerous as gas stations is putting the horse before the cart. Put all the fancy body work on these new Corvettes will make them slick in the wind and great handling but they are for racing . Elaborate styles like this are not necessarily beautiful . Classic lines of 1963 -67 Corvettes are so much simpler and beautiful. Heaven forbid something goes wrong with the wiring and computers in these new cars. These new ones are cool but not for me. I wonder what will happen if the govt has to point a gun at reluctant consumers essentially forcing us to buy battery cars? Will govt subsidies have to be increased as incentive to buy? More tax money to convert from fossil fuel driven autos to charging stations through out America? I cannot help thinking the very heart of the American is the freedom of choice. There are no underrated tools when you are in the middle of a project and come up against a problem which some tool that made it into the tool box but was never used became the solution. I collect tools even if I only use it once it will be there for me always. You just never know what you will need. It should be noted that EV in classics diminishes the very nostalgic reason to have one. You can modernize the driving inadequacy of the past without this novelty approach. But be that as it may its your choice. However the govt is choosing for everyone to join in their EV parade without concern for our choice with everyday cars. The buyout choice by Cadillac dealerships is an indication that customer choice for what cars they want would make their decision to bail. As a taxpayer I am suggesting that if electric cars require govt subsidy and are required at sometime in the future it is govt interference deciding what we have to buy. I prefer having the free market determining what we purchase as govt has never had a good track record directing our lives.
