Now it's safer to go to the manufacturers site and get the number and go back to whichever warehouse you deal with. Good and easy cataloging does still exist, Rock Auto. With vehicles being made in three or four different countries and sourcing parts locally this adds yet a further layer of confusion. I started at a GM dealership in 1967 and that was with catalogues for each car series, like A-body etc. plus truck. The rack I used was four feet long and three rows deep. As a matter of interest, an Olds 455 bolts in and requires minor massaging of the A/C housing in the engine bay. Canada received Hyundai products starting in 1983. Like most dealers our profit makers were used cars. The diesel Oldsmobile Cutlass was a $100 car once the engine went poof. We bought these and kept reserves. The gas V8 bolted right in, the larger cubic capacity motors have a higher deck height hence the A/C box mod. They never lasted long on the lot. One of our mechanics had a '78 Chevelle that we stuck an enhanced 454 and 4 speed in. That was when we discovered the frame weakness issue. '66 Nova L79 2dr coupe all over again! I had a '68 that I obtained while working at Carter Chevrolet in Hamilton Ontario. At this time Maurice Carter raced in the Canadian Touring Car Championship and the SCCA Trans-Am series. As a street car the small engine was an issue even with 4:10 gear end gears, an L-78 with 94 more CID was a better choice. Perhaps a little nose heavy, but a better street car. The 302 had pressed in rocker studs which needed to be replaced with threaded after the first heavy burst of acceleration. That done the oil pump seized and that required a short block replacement. The 8-12 mpg was also an issue. I have an 2017 SS1LE now and a1998 Z28 which I've had for 20 years. Yeah the '68 Z-28 was a great looking car but I don't miss it. ... View more
