One of these days, I hope a group of journalists conduct a proper investigation into Dieselgate. My gut instinct (aka pure speculation) is that most manufacturers knew that the particulate hurdles were going to be incredibly difficult to reach and that a group of them (some would say a cartel) got together to decide on one unified way to cheat the system. So, in effect, creating not many threads to pull but rather just one, regardless of manufacturer. Although VW was the first caught red-handed, eventually Fiat Chrysler, Opel (GM), Nissan, Renault, Mercedes-Benz were all implicated (in addition to Audi and Porsche, part of the larger VAG organization). Obviously, I can't abide by the cheating, but I also can't help but feel one organization was burned at the stake while many others got off nearly scot-free.
