I first read this on a Buick forum, of all places, because many of the (advanced age) hardcore Buick guys have become disillusioned with mother "gm" and turned to buying Challengers/Chargers for their affordable-ish, fullsize, full power fix. The part I love about the electric RAM: it is obviously a Unibody (well, unibody on top of the electric platform frame) and has 4 wheel independent suspension. Other trucks that are going this route (or at least the IRS): the F150 Lightning and Rivian R1T. Why do I find this amusing? Well, truck guys have spent years belittling a great little light-duty truck, the Honda Ridgeline, for being Unibody (on frame, look it up there is a frame welded to the bottom of the whole unibody platform) and for IRS. IRS wasn't "strong enough" according to the truck guys (who ignored that it was the IRS that gave the Honda the best payload in the mid-sized class, as well as ignoring that most trucks gave up on IFS long ago). Now we see the F150 Lightning and Rivian R1T have towing numbers that match or beat the "traditional" crowd while riding on the supposedly "weak" suspension. It turns out the suspension type is not a limiting factor these days, and IRS returns far better handling and ride. The "traditional" crowd may have to finally accept that it is time for trucks to evolve from design that dates back to when horses and cars shared the road. I look forward to seeing what innovation comes of letting go the idea that trucks must be built a certain way to accomplish what their owners will use them for, technology dictates otherwise. Besides, if we are honest, although many like to brag that their leaf-sprung, lifted, off-road tired truck can theoretically tow 12k lbs and drive off the lot and straight onto the trails at Moab, recent surveys reveal that up to 70% of trucks will never go off-road or pull a trailer (see the 2019 Strategic Vision survey) and are more likely going to be seen taking kids to school, sitting in the Starbuck drive through, and then heading to an office parking lot, with an occasional weekend trip to Lowes being the closest it will ever see to work, and parking on the lawn being the furthest it will ever go off-road. They are chasing the relevant vs the irrelevant. Lincoln has nothin in car available and Cadillac already has them covered with the CUV and SUV lines. It most of their money and future is EV. The failure of Cadillac and Lincoln both are that they both lost their identities. Cadillac is nothing but a fancy Chevy/GMC and the Lincoln a fancy Ford. The CT6 was my hope to return back to their own identity but it died when they moved to the EV plan. The only hope now is with the EV product they can create exclusive models that share little buyers will recognize from a lesser model. It is an opportunity for a fresh start to be a unique and special division again but will they stick to this plan or change it every couple years. The CT4 and 5 are just buying time not so much fighting Benz. With the V Black wings they can be profitable in a market that cares little for regular sedans. ... View more

So glad to see Dr. Olds get some recognition. When I was 22 years old in 1969 I bought a brand new Olds W31. One of 913 made that year, it had a 350 CID engine with an advertised 325 HP (those who owned one will swear it produced more HP), a close ratio Muncie 4 speed with a Hurst shifter going back to a .391 posi-trak rear end. The color for both the roof and body was "Platinum" which had a code of 69. So roof, body and year were 69/69/'69. Interior was black with bucket seats and a console that was flush with the seats. At that age, during that time I had waaay too much fun in that car. I will never forget the sound it made at idle. Lub-dub-dub-dub-lub-dub-dub-dub. When the RMPs went up, the cold air induction scoops under the fenders sounded like jet intakes sucking in air. They also sucked in snow during the winter and at one point a sparrow who's desiccated remains were found when changing the air filter. Got a happy place in my heart for my 92 525iT. I was amazed at the double sunroof; it was a lifesaver after carrying three dogs on a 2K journey (hint : dogs smell). Opened the 'rear' sunroof and all was well. Only gripe was the GM slushbox; have a 99 528iT now with a proper gearbox. ... View more
