How much do you know about the 24 Hours of Le Mans?

Hagerty_RLM_evt_header.jpg

We're gearing up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend. Hagerty joins forces with Radio Le Mans, the only free to air, live, and global coverage provider for the event, to bring you some race trivia. Answer ANY of the 10 questions below for a chance to win your own limited edition official 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans polo.

  1. Which famous drummer has raced at Le Mans? Fortunately, he didn't put a hole in the wall.
  2. Alain de Cadenet was a favourite private entrant at Le Mans with his eponymous cars. But which famous F1 designer designed the car?
  3. Gordon subsequently designed a car which went on to win the race. What was the car?
  4. When David Bell, Justin Bell, and Andy Wallace almost won Le Mans, their sponsor was a famous London store. What was the store?
  5. In what year did the start of the race not take place on the existing start-finish straight?
  6. What was the best ever result for a single driver in the 24 Hours of Le Mans? Name the driver, car, and year?
  7. Who was the last driver to drive two cars during the race?
  8. Name at least three drivers who had a parent compete here in the past?
  9. How many times has the race not been held in the month of June ?
  10. According to the officially posted results, what was the longest—in terms of time—that the race ever lasted? Bear in mind that the race finishes when the leading car crosses the start-finish line for the first time after 24 hours have elapsed.

How much do I know? Honestly more now that Hagerty's 10 trivia questions sent me down the rabbit hole known as the internet.  😄

Alain de Cadenet was a favourite private entrant at Le Mans with his eponymous cars. But which famous F1 designer designed the car?

Gordon Murray designed Brabhams & McLarens in F1; as well as the de Cadenet Lolas that Alain raced Le Mans. Murray also designed the road-going McLaren F1.

Gordon subsequently designed a car which went on to win the race. What was the car?
(Thank you for hinting at Mr Murray.) As a little known story goes - The McLaren F1 that Gordon Murray designed was only ever to be a road car. He was adamant that this was a grocery getter for the glitterati. A syndicate of teams led by Ray Bellm & Thomas Bscher would not take no for an answer. They wanted F1s for the 1995 BPR GT Series. Murray was disappeared to a bank vault. Eventually Murray agreed to wrestle Mark Blundell for it. Murray lost and built several several race spec F1s. This new car was truly a car for everyone from Glitterati To Racers. The McLaren F1 GTR not only won the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans; it took 4 of the top 5 spots.

How many times has the race not been held in the month of June?

Four including this year.
1923 May
1956 July
1968 September
2020 September
