Help us reach our goal of teaching 500 drivers in 50 days how to drive a manual!
There’s nothing like driving a stick shift – feeling the gears change, connecting with the car and the road – and we’re on a mission to get more people experiencing that excitement.
It all starts on National Stick Shift Day (July 16). We’ll be kicking off the day at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI, celebrating 10 years of the Hagerty Driving Experience (our program designed to teach young drivers how to operate a vehicle with a manual transmission)!
You can take part no matter where you are, anytime from July 16 – Sept. 3 - here's how:
Thank you for joining the fun - Never Stop Driving!
Thanks for posting! Since we just officially (we'll take early entries) started the campaign today, we will be following up next week via email to gather our first batch of addresses. You can expect that email to come by mid week and the hats soon after. Thanks!
My neighbor has been bugging me let her try driving my Jeep, so today was the day. She was confident at first, then not so sure, but she finally was able to get going! She'll need a little more practice, but it was a lot of fun for both of us!
Just to get used to the feel of the clutch she didn't even touch the throttle at first and only used the clutch alone to get the van rolling. That seemed less complicated to learn that before learning to match the revs.... VWorking well so far! Another 3-pedal convert!
Well left early today from work so I could start the 3 pedal training with my son Tyler. The smile on his face was worth leaving early. Very impressed with his first time, no grinding just bogging a bit and a stall or two. Mind you my Bullitt is mildly molded so it's not the easiest to learn on. Hopefully this fall we can find a manual beater that he can drive on the street. It'll be nice having someone else in the house that is car crazy like me. Hagerty looks like a future customer.
This is fantastic Rachel. Hagerty knows how to keep driving fun. I spent some time in my old CJ7 teaching my Stepson (Dawson) to drive. He's a bit young to get his license yet but might as well have some fun learning a new skill on his Papa's driveway. Dawson will get his mom's old 5 speed manual VW Jetta when he turns 16 so this is time well spent.
My 14 year old Grandson Grayson is spending the summer at our Montana Ranch. He's learned to drive the old Jeep CJ7 (3 spped Manual), then the 1999 Miata (5 speed Manual), then 1986 Fiero (4 speed Manual) and finally the 2009 370Z ( 6 speed).
My co-worker bought a vw camper Van with stick stift and had to learn it on the drive home! Luckily, I had my mom, who guided me in the art, following us, because we did kill it a couple times. But it was a great experience and we have more practice to do together! She was a natural!
Teaching the next generation in the best of the first generation. Zoom-ZOOM!
… it’s like a dance with your left foot and right while reacting to what the car it telling you….
It's 92 degrees here in So Cal during the day, so I waited until evening to teach my wife how to drive our 1973 Super Beetle. She did a great job! Not a single stall (although the Bug is very forgiving)!
