I wasn’t sure if I could participate in Drive at Dawn. I had surgery on July 21st to repair a complex meniscus tear in my left knee and I haven’t been able to drive my Sky Redline for the last 5 weeks. However, against Dr’s orders, I took an early morning drive. It’s sunny & 72 degrees and I figured the Catawba River would make a great backdrop. I’m unable to get myself in the shot, as I’m still using crutches to stand & walk and I’m the one taking the pic. I hope everyone’s drive this morning is as amazing as mine.

Well it’s raining here so I had to change cars. Had intended to thank my 52 Hudson Commodore 8 Convertible but it is a bit of a trailer queen and doesn’t like the rain. So we took our next best convertible, our 1992 Mercedes 300sl out for a breakfast run. We had either out this year so we went despite the rain.

If you start your Safari early enough, you may actually be able to touch the elusive Ramcharger in it's natural habitat. Later in the day, they tend to gather with their elders, making close contact very hard.

I had a lot of fun driving my '63 VW in the Drive At Dawn. It was fun to get out and drive and take a bunch of pictures. I saw one other old car: an ambulance from the 1940s.
It's not Pebble Beach, but Whispering Springs Golf Club is nice too. With my 1997 Lotus Turbo Esprit V8.
