Well I was on my way to the Fall Color tour, got to the meeting spot, gassed up and put her into second and gave her a little gas, CLUNK !!!!
STUCK in gear.
Limped home put her in the Garage and closed the door in disgust.
Assuming, broken shift fork or mangled syncro. (though when I changed the seals and oil it looked good in there ! )
I will take it apart when I do the rebuilt 283 swap that was on hold 'til the season end, well I guess the end is nigh.
IT NEVER ENDS.
Welcome to Old car ownership.
Oh yeah, you are livin' the life. The life of an old vehicle owner never ends.
Just last night one of the HID headlight bulbs on my 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII died, wouldn't be a problem if they still made the bulbs. I went to an aftermarket conversion and it's...well....close enough I guess. I just have to keep extra bulbs lying around because the quality stinks...but at least they are cheap and plentiful!
Was really hoping to cruise for the fall, as it is great cruising weather.
I guess I could do the swap this weekend, just not motivated.
I love doing upgrades, I hate Fixing stuff!
Oh Well, Fall Blues I guess.
Kudos for the good attitude and acceptance.
I think we’ve all been there. You know…like a 70 year old NOS accessory metal radiator over-flow that decides to fail and belch steam and coolant just as your pulling into a car show kinda “been there”.
Here’s hoping it’s the easy fix…shift fork.
I had a belch/steam/boilover once while pulling into my slot at a show - as people gathered and gawked, I got out, walked around to the front of the car, cup in hand, and loudly declared, "Coffee's ready! Who wants some?" 😉
LOL…I’m gonna steal that if/when there’s a next time. 👍
Its strange how I couldn’t understand why others were so upset or embarrassed when something like that happened because I just figured it was part of the “old car” hobby. Well, I didn’t understand until it happened to me. I gotta say, leaving that steam cloud and trailing coolant as I drove by the registration tent I felt like a giraffe in a flock of sheep…and welcomed the reassurance I’d always tried to give.
@Hagerty Fan - Steal away, man! I get ya about the embarrassment thing, although it should be needless to feel thusly. I also agree 100% that it's just "part of it" and we might as well face it with a grin. In the attached picture, I'm telling everyone around me in the pits that they should watch their step, as my Pontiac just took a pee. "My fault, I shoulda taken it out on the lawn before we came through the gate!"
The only thing I kinda feel a little red-faced about is: why the heck am I standing in the wet spot? 😄
