How does somebody take a historically significant and very cool car like that and put a cheap set of Maxxis tires on it. Isn't Maxxis big in golf cart and ATV tires? Doesn't a set of good ol' Firestones make more sense?

I'd say it's just an added expense that probably won't make a difference in the final hammer price? Besides, anyone paying a few hundred grand for the car will only look at upgrading tires as "chump change"

Agree on the tires. Big failure you see all the time. Will spend untold amounts of money on some invisible item, then buy some off brand tire. Pony up ( yes it is a pun) and go to Coker and get the correct tires. Also does it really have a leather conv top? Imagine folding that up. Still I bet HFII spent less than an hour in that car. He would rather pick up his women in an Lincoln. His famous line goes something like this... No excuses no explanations.

because that would cost ford money. the deuce has travelled the wold and was easier to leave the car in the country its used in. because shipping and freight and customs costs money and time.

This Mustang is cool, but I saw another cool personally owned "Ford" that has equal cool factor...I wonder if any Hagerties know where it is today. My father's lifelong (I call him "Uncle") friend in Detroit was close to Henry II...very close. He has many personal early Ford family cars...and a ton of others. As a early teenage I saw a stunning candy apple red Cougar with white leather in his personal collection. It had Ford's initials engraved in the seat belt buckles and stitched into the white leather seat backs, I was told it had a 428? 429? motor in it and was dubbed an XR8 Cougar and he got it from the Deuce personally. When my "Uncle" knew it was time to sell off the amazing collection...most went to an Arizona auction house. I have never seen or heard about the car again.

Thats a cool car with some very special features. Would appreciate if Haggerty follows up on the sale price. With the money some of these special cars are bringing I could not venture a guess on this one. That interior is gorgeous. I totally agree with others on the tires, c'mon here.. they could of done a lot better then that.

HFII never use this car at Le Mans track in 1966 and 1967... he used an helicopter to go on the race from the castle hotel. On the track in 1966 he was the passenger , with Christina , Edsel II and Giovanni Agnelli of a well known red convertible drove by Henri Chemin PR of Ford France... That mean that Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson do not know anything about the Le Mans 1966 race

So the Maxxis tires are the thing we should focus on? Get real. Who cares what tires are on it at this point? Does anyone think the tires are going to effect the final bid? Can you imagine someone saying "Well, I'd up the bid to $275,000 but I'm going to pass because it doesn't have Firestone tires."

I believe the tires were just an observation. If the car is original and period correct then the Maxxis tires would be incorrect. I do not thing anyone suggested the final price would be affected by the tires.

Spent most of its life in France, did he leave it there after LeMans? Or maybe he stored it there to use on race week for the years he went.

I can't give too much info, but a buddy of mine works for the current "Ford" at the top of the glass house in Dearborn; he has a very close relationship with the man.

I'll say it hits $100K in the 1st 5 seconds, tops out between $450-500K. Funny thing is that a no miles original GT hit well into 6 figures recently and the bid was turned down, couldn't tell you if it ever sold. GT sports roof (fastbacks) with paper and provenance were close or into 6 figures not long ago. This car belongs with the 2 Shelby coupes as a triple crown. Your resuts may vary, tax n title extra, no purchase necessary, see your retailer for details, void where prohibited...

No doubt this was a special car. I ordered a ‘65 Ford Falcon Hartop in Kansas City. My uncle Al was a manager at the Claycomo Ford Plant. My car went through that plant and got extra attention at every station. Most astounding was the paint. The Burgundy that I ordered literally sparkled, and I had 4 speakers and an AM FM that I didn’t order. So I’m certain Deuce got whatever he wanted

Awesome car with or without the "pedigree". I got to drive one in 1968, I was a Pontiac guy at the time with a bored out 389 Catalina, over a 100 CI less and went like hell so surprised!

I like the extra body stabilizer bars bolted on top of the factory brackets from the fire wall reaching past the shock towers and secured to the fender skirts on either side. Wonder if that set up works any better or as good as the cross bar the Shelby factory added to their GT 350 R competition cars? Also, wonder if the power steering system included that ungodly awful control valve the factory used to link into the steering? That set up was a sloppy mess right out of the factory gates. I'm certain the Deuce new that and had them bolt a hydraulic gear and a manual center link. I hope.

LEATHER top? REALLY? I think you're thinking of "leatherette", AKA PVC (vinyl). 
I've always liked Cougar interiors, guess I'm not alone.
I had a 79 Capri Ghia 5.0 which I thought had MUCH better lines than the Fox bodied 'stang. (sorry I sold that one!)
I also had a '68 and, while I understand that it is not the same car as this 66, I'm trying to figure out what that silver bell shaped thingy is next to the starter relay.

I bought a '68 Mustang GT 302 4bbl, 4sp in a teal blue. First year with front disc brakes and radial ply BFG tires. Great looking car, reasonably quick but was always blown off by my buddies 302 '67 Camaro.
I only had the car a year as it had a miserable vibration at 70 mph. I took the car to the Ford plant for the engineers to look at Oakville after many visits to the dealer to get it fixed. Ford blamed it on the disc brakes, the radial tires, just about anything. I traded in the Mustang on a new Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV (that I still own).
In 1974 it was discovered that Ford pinion castings in the late '60's were sometimes cast 10 thousandths off true centre. At the driveshaft speed at 70 mph, a resonance in the smaller cars was felt. As a fussy tech guy, it drove me crazy. Still wish I had not traded the Mustang, overall I loved it.

Kid wrked at the local Sunoco hada fastback in the day. Back seat was never up. We puta 8 track in that deck so it pointed toward driver's right shoulder, easy to change a tape'n get back to drivin.

These notch backs all ways seemed more sedate...

I like the interior and exterior touches on this car. The top isn't may favorite but otherwise it's a great looking car.
