Review: 2021 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC

If the E-Class is the heart of the Mercedes brand, the 2021 E-Class (W213) suggests it's a heart grown increasingly bionic. In this rather extensive mid-cycle refresh, Mercedes graces its midsize sedan with its MBUX infotainment system (which debuted in early 2018) and concentrates a multitude of controls on the entirely touch-sensitive spokes of a rehauled steering wheel. Even the available inline-six, the first gasoline powerplant using this layout in a U.S.-market E-Class since the naturally-aspirated M104 exited in '97, features a mild-hybrid implant and a turbocharger. Its tech vocabulary is clearly demarcated from that of the 2021 S-Class—it doesn't lean into corners or read your fingerprint—but this refreshed E-Class still adds compelling tech to an already desirable and well-executed package.

Can we just clarify that Mercedes is from Baden-Wuerttemberg, not Bavaria.  That headline misleads readers into thinking we're talking BMW ("B" as in Bavarian), not Mercedes.  If Baden-Wuerttemberg is too much of a mouthful, the authors of this otherwise fine review might want to substitute "Swabia" at the cost of ruining their butler alliteration.

“More sharper”...

”BAVARIAN version of Jeeves”...really?

Disappointing journalism.

Does it have self valet capability? I understand that it is available overseas in the S Class

Active Parking Assist comes optional on the E 450, which will automatically steer in/out of parallel and straight spaces but which requires you to be in the vehicle. The 2021 S-Class goes a step further with "Drive Pilot," which will park the car remotely—but that option, as you suggest, is only available in Germany. Looks like, for now, the remote system is reserved for the S-Class.
