"An immense fault in the earth": The hunt for jets continues | Hagerty Media

(This is the second, and final, part of our Hunting For Jets With Camden Thrasher feature. Enjoy!) Naturally, the next day, we sat on another mountain for eight hours and saw a sum total of bupkis. We had bedded down the night before on a dry lake near Death Valley, a few miles from a small town.

Are there any pictures of the F-22s?

Remarkable series; I really enjoyed it.

I am former USAF so jet engines always make me look, and the smell of JP4 jet fuel is almost intoxicating. In service close encounters were occasional and always thrilling. In the early eighties Nancy and I were vacationing out West in a Mustang II / Cobra II. We were in transit from Cheyenne to Yellowstone, high in the mountains when I was distracted from the scenery by a B52 Stratofortress. It was more than a thousand feet BELOW us, likely training with ground sensing radar. That is an act of faith.

Great story Sam. I can smell the greasewood and hear the wind.
Thanks!

Why did you not join the US Navy and fly these things? Someone has to do it!
