Regarding Pontiac external engine size: I remember when I (as an old Chevy guy) dropped the 455 into my '66 LeMans. I was talking to a Poncho guy, and I said something to the effect that "I didn't have any experience with a Pontiac big-block". He set me straight in about 6 seconds. Now to a Chevy guy, it seemed inconceivable that an engine with 455 cubes (and replacing a cracked block 326) wasn't a "big-block" vs. a small-block. My first lesson in Pontiac powerplants was a little embarrassing, but I'm glad the guy was cool about it instead of laughing me out of my own garage... 😃
