I have a Maxi Blue '74 Javelin SST in my garage. I love that car and it is one of the most admired cars at the car shows I attend.
It's a shame that AMC is so often ignored.

Diego, I'm old enough to remember a lot of these cars when they were new, and although I'm not a muscle type I have had a couple of 4-4-2s, because I am an Oldsmobile enthusiast. Very good pictures and text. Thank you.

Agree 100% on the AMC comments. First car was a 69 Javelin SST in Big Bad Orange. The AMC's performed well on the streets and should not be left out!

Wow what an amazing show!!! I would like to have ALL the cars shown, including some that I could make out in the background of some of the pictures! Well, maybe there is an exception, I will pass on the Hurst Hemi under glass as Jay Leno found out they don't handle very well....lol
Hard to pick a favorite, but if I have to I will choose the blue 70 Trans Am for a couple of reasons. You don't see them as often as some of the other cars and I am partial to the Trans Am as I have 2 of them!

The Buick looks particularly ill at ease with pretty much the same grille and trim that granny had on her Skylark.
Good to some of the rate dtuff, how many '69 Mustang Grande Coupes are left?
Also, neat old tire truck in the background...a old Ford C series with period graphics. Cool!

We have a 93 fourth gen Z28 wth T56 transmission and modified to current computer specs which eliminates the problimatic optispark. We were at this show several years ago and it is a good one but should have included more of the later generation versions. I think our fourth gen combines optimal aerodynamics with an excellent power to weight ratio

Nice collection of muscle cars; but I see plenty of them at Hot August Nights (I used to be a judge at the Peppermill) and at local car shows in the Phoenix area.

I am struggling with my love of the 442, the GS Stage 1, and 70 Challenger to pick a favorite in these gallery of beauties. Also, definitely watching Vanishing Point tonight.

In my humble but unwavering opinion that Rally Red Olds 442 W30 is my favorite and one of the most dependable factory muscle cars ever made. I have owned several 442’s and Cutlass SX models and still own the 1972 Olds 442 that I factory ordered in November of 1971. None of my Oldsmobiles ever let me down. They were and are very reliable vehicles and my all time favorite vehicles.
Of course I am 100% American and will take an American made vehicle over any foreign vehicle. I shed my blood for our country and I support it with my wallet if possible.

I need to go here. What a smorgasbord of awesomeness. I can only imagine what optimism there was in the US car market in 1970 before the balloon popped, so sad. I am impressed with the Mercury and Pontiac offerings. The MOPAR stuff is always cool but it is literally everywhere. The cyclones and eliminators not so much. Great photography btw

The reason the Mopar stuff is literally everywhere now is because it was such a low volume vehicle then! The people that knew what they had loved them, ragged on them with em’ ending up in barns to be found today. Most everything else was a dime a dozen, ending up in junk yards…Except a lot of the ultra rare muscle cars shown here. A complete flip flop now of days past.

I agree with all the AMC fans----I can't even drive my 72 SST to ACE HARDWARE and not come out without people standing and admiring. When I take it to a show I could be parked right next one of those GENERIC muscle cars your showing and gather a larger crowd with my AMC.
I use to be a Ford man--then a Chevy---then a MOPAR---I am now a AMC man.

I believe the writer is mistaken. Firebird’s were available with the 455 and 455 ram air in the early 70s. I had a friend who had a 1971 Firebird formula for 55 ram air, it was a bad car! Then there were the 455 super duty models in 74/75.
Even the 1976 Trans Am had the 455 available, albeit the one from the station wagon.

Which is your favorite? I have a continuation 66' 427 Cobra, 67' 3X2 427 Vette roadster, 67' modified shaker hood 428 SCJ Mustang GT Fastback and a 68' 302 Shelby Mustang. Forced to sale the other half of this collection over the last decade but even though not all cars shown are my style how can one choose. Depending on mood and purpose I could choose to drive any of the featured cars on any given day, best eye candy article ever. Started driving in the mid 70's when these were affordable used cars, "well mostly" and actually owned some exact or similar to many featured. The loss your younger aficionado's did not experience like us older guys is being able to grow up watching these cars on the street as daily drivers by many who owned them. I find myself watching old shows sometimes just for the cars. I remember in the 70's the cars got so big I felt like I was driving a sportscar when in a 60's mustang because they were so much smaller compared to what was mostly on the road. Thank you for a taste of nostalgia that will never be repeated by Detroit ever again.

Love it , truly the golden age of muscle cars. Back in the day when could actually tell the difference between different manufactures brands of vehicles , unlike today when you are hard pressed to tell the difference between a Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, Buick etc...................... cookie cutter cars.

This was my first time at MCACN, loved them all, but being a 70 Olds W-31owner, I was partial to the blue 70 W-31, I had a 68 442, so I'm partial to Olds,Buick and Pontiac, Had 1 Baracuda I also have 2 Mustangs so I kind of like all makes. One car that I didn't see was a 69 SC/Rambler, one of my all time favorites.
