I have a perfect understanding of socialism and capitalism.
“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”
Corvette = Blessing
Trabant = Miseries
Socialism and communism both promise much of the cradle to grave we will take care of you kind of thinking. Both often force you to surrender your will and ability to improve your own life.
Capitalism often results in letting people to grow and expand on their own and not be limited buy the government
I with people would stop spreading the big lie that Socialism is a great thing.
Even Russia did not try to hide it when they were fully Communist.
The USSR stood for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics Even they were more honest about it than so many others.
Right you are about the politics. However.. put a Trabant next to a Corvette at a car show or cruise night. Nobody, and I do mean nobody, will be looking at the Corvette. I see this happen all the time.
Great museum. I love that they use the planes to tell human stories not just showcase technology. One that moved me was a piece of a German ME 262 jet built by slave labor that had a picture of a heart scratched in it and said in French “my heart is free”. Many of the German manufacturer’s weapons were sabotaged by slaves risking their lives to do so. Fascism and communism are just two sides of the same coin.
I read once that ten times as many people died building V2 rockets as the rockets killed when they landed.
I own a Trabant here in the US. It is a very reliable little car, but one designed for a very different environment. The Trabant is a triumph against socialism, a system that throttles creativity and personal freedom. The designers understood that these cars had to be simple and easy to repair, since trained mechanics were always few in number, and the government wouldn’t let the factory update the design, unless it was unavoidable. The owner’s manual reads more like a shop manual. You could maintain it with very basic tools. When it came to cars, under socialism, ironically, you were on your own!
