Maine and Rhode Island take aim at JDM cars, but why?

Small-size JDM vehicles are being targeted by DMVs in Maine and Rhode Island, and owners of those vehicles-legally brought to the U.S. under the federal 25-year import law-are fighting back. So is SEMA.

Look at the wording of the law (or claimed violation). They do not want to register any vehicle tgat does not meet the FMVSD. It isn’t just kei cars that don’t meet the FMVSS. Neither does any of the other “forbidden fruit” cars that are now at least 25 years old and being imported. Integrales, R32 Skylines, etc. do not meet FMVSS.

Half the stuff I saw from that part of NE when I was in CT wasn’t road worthy, but many had up to date inspection stickers.

Perhaps some folks don’t know how the blue state rules?

Excuse my typos. I should know better than to reply using my phone.

Can we avoid the partisan talk? Red states pull this kind of stuff as well.

H.L. Mencken quote:

”Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.”

Blue states are full of neo-Puritans.

Pointless regulations from the Nanny.
Is there some massive issue with fatalities in Kei cars? Perhaps a helmet mandate would be less imbecilic?

There is a cure for the blue-state blues, but beware outbound costs tend to be higher.

Conversely, attempts to convert free states to be more like “home” are largely met with unpleasantness.

There is no reason to be unhappy someplace when you can move.

I left Illinois for Texas. Illinois is a backwards state where the people willfully have voted themselves the same people over and over and wonder why it gets worse and worse. In Texas I can drive my car year round thanks to usually good weather. I do worry about the people moving over who may not have learned why their states are all kinds of messed up.

This seems like needless burecratic actions because they feel they are doing something good or they misunderstand the 25 year import rule.
