Gale Halderman, who sketched the original Mustang, dies at 87
Gale Halderman, an automotive artist who was the first to sketch the original Ford Mustang, wasn’t as well-known or commended as Lee Iacocca, but automotive historians know he had plenty to do with the design of the iconic pony car. Halderman died of liver cancer on April 30. He was 87.
Thanks Gale and RIP! I've owned the following Mustangs: '65 V8 Coupe, '66 V8 Coupe with pony interior/AC, '70 Mach 1, '87 5.0 Hatch, '90 5.0 Coupe and now a '98 GT coupe. He truly penned a great automotive icon...and one that Ford needed bad in 1964. Sad to see Ford is diluting its cars down to cross-overs and over-priced Mustangs. We need the Mustang to return to its roots - an affordable and fun Pony car for the masses. I definitely would NOT buy a new one - don't care how much HP/TQ it has - because for 40K, I'd snag a nice used 911, M4, Viper or Corvette.
