French bread is to become a "cultural treasure" and so should these 10 breadvans | Hagerty Media

That delicious symbol of France, the baguette, might soon become protected by UNESCO. According to CNN bakers are petitioning The United Nations to include the French stick on its list of intangible treasures, and that got us thinking, obviously, about breadvans.

Some real Beauties there, have loved some of them from the beginning. Good to see the United Nations finally found something they might be able to handle for the measly billions we have paid into their wealth distribution operation.

Love the Bmw.
Unfortunately I won't be able to un-see that 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2.

Surely the shooting brake is a distinct category — i.e., a coach-built version of a standard car, longer than a mere hatchback, probably with a back seat, even if vestigial, and rear window glass? When those Brits said breadvan, they meant something without rear windows, at any rate. I like most of these cars, except the one in the title. Let the ultra-rich make awkward breadvans out of flash Italian cars. Whatever.

1947–81 Citroën HY Van Probably the best of the lot because it isn't in any way pretending to be something it is not.

How about the Jensen Healy GT and MGB GT?

The original is cool, not pretty. The other (bastardized) Ferraris are unforgivable. The rest of the list is terrific (if not following the true “breadvan” formula).

My second wife loved the XJS. Since I had an E Type I was forced to buy her a red 1990 coupe aft erat wedding. When the second child arrived we still shoehorned the family into the thing until she totaled it. She hit a 911. That was a scene on the highway. Anyways, she moved on to an XJ6 (XJ-400) but always wanted the Eventer instead. Alas, all are right hand drive. She had enough trouble without being on the wrong side of the car! I really miss that a XJS...

You can't forget the beautiful Lancia Beta HPE. One of the most beautiful "shooting brake" wagons ever. A nod to the glorious Chevrolet Nomad wagons of the 1950s would also seem appropriate, although an older generation. As for the Ferrai, it's nice to see that even the Italians get design horribly wrong, sometimes.
