Ford’s second-gen SVT Lightning is emerging as a powerful, capable collector truck

Tire-smoking muscle never goes of style, and if that rubber-shredding ride can also haul wood and tow your boat, all the better. Ford’s hot muscle truck, the SVT F-150 Lightning, is one such multi-talented vehicle. The Blue Oval’s first stab at the Lightning formula has aged remarkably well in the collector vehicle market and remains an affordable classic. However, second-generation SVT Lightning models are coming into their own in the collector car market; prices for top-condition trucks have risen as younger generations of buyers show keen interest.

I purchased a 2001 a few years ago and spent time fixing the rust and repairing the interior, a great truck to cruise in and to go to the hardware store. My silver beauty has 168,000 miles and still makes me smile when I punch that throttle.

Great truck , bought 99 in July 99 and have 235,000 miles , only problem is power windows. Still sweet to drive. By the way the 99/2000 had 3.55 rear axle the later had 3.73.

actually the 4 door (SuperCrew) supercharged HD edition only made 2002-2003. Before that it was a Supercab with normally aspirated Triton 5.4. Except Jay Leno's special edition 2001 which was supercharged and sold at Barrett Jackson for $250,000 a few years ago.

Didn't think the Lightning had that much towing/cargo capacity. I had one which I traded in on the then new 2002 Harley Davidson F150. It had 4 seats instead of just two. Could haul 3500 pounds and bed could hold 500 lbs.

You are correct. I recall the one given to Jay by Ford at the BJ auction. I hope the value of mine will increase some day. It only has 39,000 miles on it and I've been asking $26,000 CDN for it in Canada. There is a good market for them but all high milers which are sold at a lot less.

Red 01. Sold after 20 years.  The most fun truck I have ever owned, towed better than my new truck, quicker and handled better than our 69 L-78 camaro and got comments wherever we went clean or dirty. regret already setting in.123322199_10222958057956407_8085224418777767142_o.jpg123322199_10222958057956407_8085224418777767142_o.jpg
