First Look Review: 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe

Leaving aside The Mandalorian-a brilliant adaptation of the classic Western genre that happens to be set in a galaxy far, far, away-most of us have had our fill of Star Wars. The most recent trilogy was a shameful cash-grabbing mess, half-baked with lazy storytelling and empty of real tension.

Good article and excellent analogy.

Much appreciated, and thanks for being a dedicated reader!

Eric, nice photos of a ugly car. This thing looks like it was designed by five teams. One each for the front, middle, back, top, and bottom. The peak of the rocker panel at the door line makes the car look like it has a bent frame. They should only offer this in black paint.

It looks better in person, but I agree, it's not a cohesive design. I got some looks driving around near Thermal, but I'm not sure if they were good, bad, or just confused. Fun car though. I think the rear-drive M240 is gonna be a hoot when it comes out next year.

I got used to the 'polarizing style' of my 1 Series because it is a blast to drive

BMW ruined it honestly. Its now huge, ugly, and heavy. There goes the last BMW I was interested in. I guess faster 0 to 60mph times is all BMW focuses on nowadays. What a shame

Totally agree. I have a 2007 3 Series AWD wagon (E91), and like Eric noted, they are similar in size. The coupes are an inch larger in all dimensions except height and wheelbase. The M240 actually weighs more than my wagon, which is kind of amazing considering my wagon has 2 extra doors, a heavy hatch, and a panorama sunroof.

I wouldn't call it huge, and it's not egregiously heavier than before. We're not talking about 400 pounds here. Still, I can see how the changes you're bothered by do affect the character/demeanor of the car.

Not the ugliest BMW for sure given the Mole Rat M3/M4 styling but also not a cohesive design. The grill flaps don't do it any favors. Are they in Piano Black? Ughhh.

The ultimate driving machine now with an auto only option. It is bigger, bloated and weight as much as a whale. The only positive is that they didnt add that hideous front grill from the 3 series. BMW going down the "we suck too" pipe...

If all of the auto companies didn't keep growing everything they make then they wouldn't have to keep bringing out new smaller models. I never wanted my fathers bloated Oldsmobile!

The companies are simply responding to customer feedback. “I wish it had more room” was a common sentiment when I worked in the auto field, and it hasn’t gotten any better now that most Americans are overweight.
