A seriously mean flathead V-8 powers this Bonneville record holder

Bonneville Speed Week brings out all shapes and sizes of race cars, and their powerplants are also just as diverse. Poke your head under the hood of some of the salt's fastest cars and you'll see everything from nitro-guzzling Hemi V-8s to turbocharged Toyota 2JZ inline-sixes.

300 horse flattie! That's like trying to re-engineer a longbow to launch an arrow at >400 fps! If it's possible, some people are determined to try, no matter the cost.

Turns cubic money into noise. Love it!

Those engines only had 3 bearing crankshafts. How on earth did they deal with that? And with more power planned, I'd be interested in knowing.

Maybe a girdle linking the bearings wrapping them all together?

The stuff done to it make the engine look way more modern than a flathead usually does. Pretty cool work on this vehicle.
