70 years ago, Bentley's design department sketched out independence from Rolls-Royce

Did you know that Bentley created its very own design department 70 years ago this month? The operation was likely small at first, since the first vehicle crafted by folks in Bentley's hometown of Crewe was the 1951 R-Type Continental. While it had a Bentley-worthy grille, the swoop-fendered saloon was heavily based on the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn.

I think Bentley Continental GTs are the best looking new cars today. So far, they have been pretty good at not screwing up as they made facelifts and a new platform for these cars. Let's hope the new styling people can do as well.

At least I didn't have to read the typical "Our brand is so excited for the EV future" crap

Why are we still seeing homages to crafty Rolls-Royce/Bentley marketing, and not balanced looks at the companies, how they really compared with their competitors the past century-plus, while glossing over their current Teutonic underpinnings?
