6 obscure car songs to liven up your next cruise | Hagerty Media

If you have fuel in your veins, chances are you've read articles about car songs. Heck, you've probably read one or two on this website! But generally they tend to be the same, old same-old that are overplayed at local car cruises.

Made me think of Janis Joplin - "Mercedes Benz" - short, but great.  And at least by radio=play standards, pretty doggone obscure, but I suppose for Janis fans, not so much.

Nice, but when Aretha sang "We're riding on the highway of love in my pink Cadillac" she wasn't singing about driving an automobile. Use your imagination. Jackrambler

I know it’s my age but for absolute joy of cruising my favourite is Nelson Riddle’s Route 66. An instrumental from the show of the same name.

To a pimply kid with a black and white RCA TV, that show was kind of nirvana.  So much so that I bought that Nelson Riddle album, just for that song.  Still have it.

"Sausalito Summer Nights" by Diesel. Features a Rambler that is (from my personal experience with old Ramblers in my youth!) well worn and poorly maintained. "We left for Frisco in your Rambler,
The radiator running dry..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MF1Rsu8IYxg

My comment too.
Seriously, listen to it. Only song written by Drummer Roger Taylor, vocals too. This was my badge of honor in High school

Roger Taylor has a bunch of songwriting credits with Queen. This is not his only one.

All the talk of trucking songs reminded me of Garth Brooks' "Papa Loved Mama". Check it out if you're haven't already. An incredible animated video of cars and women is "Do I Wanna Know?" by Arctic Monkeys. The song never mentions them but the art is all about hot rods. Meanwhile, I'll head out to my "Ol '55" courtesy of Tom Waits and The Eagles.

Well 🤔...Umm..NO! LOL, Although the Oldsmobile tune was pretty good. I do love the 455-SD as a great name for a song 🤔...I think The Red Rocker should give it whirl, maybe a musical upgrade with Sammy's Vocals/Guitar expertise, how bout it Hagar, look'n for another smash hit?

Bitchin' Camaro IS a good choice. Driver's Seat by Sniff and The Tears is a little more suitable for mixed company tho. And the 1955 original Hot Rod Lincoln by Charlie Ryan. And Four Wheel Drive by Racing Cars.
