On the heels of the 1977 hit film Smokey and the Bandit, Pontiac Trans Am sales went through the T-tops. Ford wanted a piece of the action. The Fox-body Mustang was still a year away, so Dearborn worked with what it had, the Mustang II hatch.

These cars looked good with Farah Fawcett laying on the hood in a bikini. Otherwise, not so much!

We had a 74 Mach I; only had a V-6, but it was the best handling car I have driven, including my WRX. The Mustang II was underappreciated. I still have my 65, but wish I still had the 74 too.
