A 1963 Dodge Polara 440 wagon may not be the typical platform that the muscle car realm encompasses, but it's from the era and has the brunt force and loud roar!
I bought the car from eBay a few years ago after I sold my track-prepped Mazdaspeed Miata. It is from California, and the owner had it since he was 19. He was building it to be a stock car tribute, and I am keeping that theme.
Ignore the 413 decals on the valve covers. The current 440 engine is out of a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner (Meep, meep). It has 4 Weber carbs with 6" stacks. The 4-speed transmission is also out of a ‘70 Plymouth Roadrunner. Hurst shifter. Old Skool Doug's headers (that just saw a repaint last weekend).
The OEM fuel tank was located under the driver's side rear fender, so we pulled that out and replaced it with a Fuel cell in the trunk.
A 4 pt. Roll cage with driver’s door bar was installed by a local shop, Thompson Racing Fabrication. It’s up on the lift now getting a bunch of upgrades for Hot Rod Drag Week, (whenever it may happen). Upgrades include but aren't limited to a Transmission rebuild, upgraded Mcleod clutch, and an NRA-spec flywheel. I also plan to cut the rear fenders for more wheel/tire space. It may get a solid front axle someday to make it an official old skool gasser, but that won't be happening this year!
Awesome!
That 63 Polara Wagon is awesome! I loved the "Meep, meep" in your write up.
My 69 Firebird. Just like my dad drove when I was born.
Very nice ‘69 Firebird my friend. Nice presentation.
Man that is sharp. You don't see that color often. What is it?
Lovely car and the color scheme is great! And that's still the coolest Wedge motor ever made!
Awesome power and great looks
Beautiful bird and beautiful first photo of it with the bridge and the sun setting in the background.
It was built in Norwood, Ohio and was an Arizona car most of its life. It was imported into Canada approximately 10 to 12 years ago. It changed hands in Canada from the person that originally imported it to his friend and then it became mine! The car came with a 350 small block, Edelbrock aluminium heads, Edelbrock EFI, a 5 speed Tremec 600lb/ft-capable manual transmission, a 12-bolt 4:10 gear ratio differential and Flowmaster dual exhaust! The best thing is at 60 miles an hour at highway speed, the engine is purring at 2200 RPM due to the overdrive of the transmission. It also was fitted with a new late model fuse box and wiring throughout the vehicle. How perfect was that, at least to me!
After the test drive it was very obvious to me that I needed to get this car in my name! As always, it now came down to money. We talked a bit, and then gave him my offer! It was $5000 below what he was asking. He didn’t bite my head off but kept trying to negotiate! I said, look, I am here, I have the cash, lets get this deal done! He then turned to me, and said, okay and shook my hand. The rest is history!
It was just a dream come true! I was driving it back from the owners place to my cousins and saying to myself, did this just happen? As with any car guy, you just can’t let things be left alone! Since owning the car, I have done some minor and major mods! I have changed the radiator to a heavy duty aluminum radiator, changed the rear drums to disc brakes and calipers, added front SSBC calipers to the cross drilled and slotted disc rotors. I added MSD multi spark ignition to the HEI distributor to aid in the firing of the platinum spark plugs. The major mods I have done was one, changed the timing chain to a timing gear that sounds like a supercharger and two, is that I changed the Vortec heads to Edelbrock aluminum big valve heads with stainless steel 1.5 ratio rocker arms, combined it with Edelbrock EFI system. What a change! I can only describe it to you this way! If you never knew what I did, you would swear that I dropped a big block in the car. It was that much more of a significant horsepower and torque gain with a great performance gain like starting and throttle response!
I have done many more small things to her throughout the years, but the one thing I will mention is that I will be adding white permanent lettering on the tires! “CAMARO” lettering at the 12 o’clock position, and “69 Z28” at the 6 o’clock position on the tire.
Last year she took 2 awards at the Atlantic Nationals in Moncton, New Brunswick , Canada. One was top 3 out of 200 cars and the other was top 25 out of 1778 cars! Awesome memories!
Very nice ‘69 Camaro my friend. Nice presentation.
1965 Pontiac GTO 389 four barrel. Been in the family 27 years. From Ohio.
Very nice ‘65 GTO my friend. Nice presentation.
1967 RS/SS 396 ; 1966 L34 Big Block 360HP; Van Nuys build; Nickey/Yenko accents. Coated headers; Holley 4150 double pumper; Offenhauser intake manifold, DeWitts 1249022M radiator. 12 bolt Moser rear end with Eaton 3:55 Posi gear. ; Turbo 400 transmission with TransGo 400 - Pro shift kit. Cal Trac control arms.
I have owned this car for the last 3 years and plan on passing it to my son one day. As an avid muscle car enthusiast there is a feeling for all classics that only this community can relate to. GM;Mopar, Dodge,Ford; they all have a place in muscle car history that will be hard to duplicate!
I have enjoyed all the posts and learning the stories of other enthusiasts!
Sweet Camaro. Love the Corvette style hood scoop.
All the work was done at
D’s Classic’s in Hebron, Indiana.
Phone: (562) 522-9229 . Phenomenal restoration and automotive work.
Classic Big Block. Sharp color combination.
My favorite Camaro year! Beautiful car!
Thank you.
Radiant Copper
Thanks for your comment. It's Tyrol blue, paint code F. In my biased opinion the best color in 67, especially with a Parchment interior. Almost passed on the car when I thought it was white with black, bought it as soon as I saw the original color.
1969 Mustang Mach 1
Florida
Bought this beauty little over a year ago from a collector who let it sit for 16 years. (Tires on it when I purchased were from 2003) Needless to say I make sure to enjoy driving it every chance I get!
Very nice Mach1. Old school muscle!
I've owned my Eliminator for about 7 years, having bought it from the original owner in 2012. But it certainly wasn't a garage queen cream puff! He used to race it (it was hand-lettered on the passenger door when I got it), and got in several accidents with it too. The vintage bodywork is starting to show its age now, but it runs and drives, and has that "well loved" look that always gets attention.
It is a numbers-matching car and was mostly complete, as far as the expensive and rare parts go. I'm sure I'll restore it someday. For now I'm gathering the necessary parts and sheet metal, and just driving and enjoying it!
I take it to various local shows when I can, and try to get to Beaches Cruise-In on Wednesday evenings at Portland International Raceway a few times a summer. Hopefully we'll get some car shows in once the COVID lockdowns are lifted!
What is that guy looking at??

That's a beautiful Eliminator! Thank you for sharing and for your efforts to document all Eliminators for the world to see!
Aha! I see by picture #2, that's the Dukes of Hazzard edition Cougar only made 1 year. Nice!
Not your traditional muscle car, but she does have a 390! Meet Ginger, 1968 Ford Galaxie 500. My wife and I saw her at the Old Town Classic Car Show downtown TC in 2017. Mostly original except for a Holley 4bbl carb and some Lincoln front bucket seats.
We agreed to buy her, and then my wife made the purchase behind my back, conspiring with the seller Jim to make me think another party was the buyer. She then surprised me with Ginger as a gift at Hagerty's Cars and Caffeine a few days later.
Since then, we have had a ton of adventures, including car shows and parades, cruises, cruise-ins for some local assisted living homes, and we have even rented her out for a wedding through DriveShare.
Probably the most fun so far was hosting the Cherry Queen for the Heritage Parade.
Looking forward to many more adventures! Enjoy the Ride!
I love your Galaxie! My first car was a '65 LTD, but it was just a sedan!
My Dad has had this '67 Corvette since I was in high school, and it has been rebuilt, restored, taken apart, and put together again a thousand times. It's one of the reasons why I think it's so normal to have a collection of old cars! I mean, what else do people do with their time? Dad's is a late production '67 in Marina Blue, with a 400 hp tripower 427, side pipes, and four speed. Over the years he's played with different rear end ratios, but I think at this moment it's got a 3.70 final drive with a wide ratio setup in the gearbox. I've been driving it since I first got a license, so it's more like a family dog than a car to me. Love that stinger hood...
The '67 Vette looks on, as my poor '68 811 gets a middle-of-a-road-trip oil cooler installed...
The best part of a side piped big block Corvette- moving out!
My favorite Corvette year.
I’m with you on the stinger hood!
Here’s my 1969 Dodge Super Bee
has been a dream of mine and my wife’s for years now and we were finally able to get one!
This may not be your typical muscle car but my 1961 Imperial Crown Convertible can certainly "Git up 'n go!" with her trusty 413 wedge V8 putting out 350 bhp at 4600rpm and delivering 0-60 in just a hair over 8 seconds when delivered on 10/7/60. She is a bit older than me and I am her 4th husband, but PLEASE don't call her a Cougar -- or even a Chrysler... She's Imperial. Gorgeous Exner excesses display his "forward look" design in this one-year-only body style sporting the tallest fins to ever grace an American production car (1/2" taller than a '59 caddy) and free standing front and rear light pods, a panalescent dash and squared off steering wheel plus the famous push-button torque-flite transmission round out a wonderful and unique auto that I just love. This is one of only 429 Imperial Crown Imperials built/sold in 1961 and is basically all original with its original paint, dent-free body panels, interior and brightwork. Again, maybe not a pony, GOAT, 'vette or other famous 60's era MOPAR muscle like its cousins (letter series 300's) but she has plenty of muscle for me.
I have all the original paperwork from her sale on 10/7/60 including the mulroney sticker, salesman's business card, original owners handbooks and registration plus years of maintenance, insurance and registration paperwork and she has traveled less than 1000 miles per year since her delivery in Portland Oregon in October 1960. Fun to drive and definitely an attention getter... plus, 4 people can socially distance in this car!
Love that red!
My 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle. Has a fuel injected 502ci. Installed Wilwood brakes, electric cutouts, billet hood hinges, and pretty much anything under the hood that’s chrome in the 5+ years I’ve owned it. Love going to car shows with my husband (he owns a 1957 Nomad).
My first Corvette I'm turning heads everywhere I drive
Twenty year project. VERY supportive spouse of 54 years!
