Is it safe to run about 5 to 10 pounds of boost from a turbo without gapping the rings in my 03 LS1?

There are a lot of variables when it comes to turbocharging a motor that was originally naturally aspirated. I'm not gonna say what PSI is safe, but boosted LS1s running "safe" engine tunes can safely make 450 or so horsepower on a dyno.  You should probably look at the supporting modifications (like fuel system, exhaust, etc) and install an air-fuel ratio gauge to see just how rich or lean you are running now and at any time in the future.

Don't take ANYONE's word for it on the Internet, install that AFR gauge so you always know how safe your engine is under boost.
